What keeps a heritage brand contemporary?
Döbritz Art and Auction House
Long-term brand management
The media may change.
The philosophy stays.
The art and auction house Döbritz, with its main premises in downtown Frankfurt, has been in existence since 1966 and is a leading auction house for modern and old masters art and antiques.
Even during digital transformation, an auction house with a rich heritage does not need constant reinvention. It needs a timeless visual language that can carry history and still work in the present day.
Since 2003, StudioAugustin has been accompanying the art and auction house as a partner for design issues. We continually translate the established ethos of the house into contemporary visual experiences – from corporate identity and UX/UI design to digital private sales galleries and cross-platform communication.
Being up to date does not mean,
doing everything anew.
Embracing understatement.
Today, clients, collectors and consignors move quite naturally between physical catalogues and digital platforms. The challenge lies in translating the brand experience precisely, stylishly and consistently across all channels – from the print advertisement to the Instagram reel.
The website doebritz.de serves as the digital extension of the Frankfurt headquarters. The website is not a foreign body alongside the auction house, but another door leading into it. Calm, direct, with plenty of space for the objects.
— Focused orientation: Calm, direct structuring of auction dates, catalogues, consignment processes and the history of the auction house.
— Durable system: New content and requirements fit into a deliberately minimalist visual system that grows with the content.
Between auctions: Freihandverkauf.
The online 'Freihandverkauf' expands the house by adding a permanently accessible digital space. Concept, UX/UI and technical implementation all come from a single source. Here too, the design remains deliberately restrained: the object leads, the interface follows.
The large volume of objects needs orientation, but no shop aesthetic. Categories, object photography, product information and the purchasing process are organised in such a way that the character of the auction house is preserved.
03 / Social Media
Digital accessibility.
The auction house’s customer base is keeping up with the times: we reach them digitally too.
Newsletter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram showcase events and make the variety of the auction house visible: surprising objects, details, stories and the atmosphere surrounding an auction in the form of reels, stories, posts and ads. No louder than necessary. But regularly enough to remain present.
